Vaping is the process of inhaling and exhaling the smoke an electronic cigarette produces. Unlike a cigarette, these electronic devices do not use tobacco. They have a liquid – nicotine – to produce vapor which the user inhales. Over the past several years the popularity of electronic cigarette has grown immensely. These devices deliver the highly addictive nicotine into the body of the user through the vapor. When compared to tobacco based cigarettes, an electronic cigarette is much safer. It only delivers nicotine into the body of the user. Whereas, a normal cigarette delivers more than 250 toxic chemicals with the smoke of which 69 causes cancer. Electronic cigarettes are safer than tobacco based cigarettes; but do they cause harm to a human body?
Harmful Effects of Vaping
For a very long time now, there has been an ongoing debate if the electronic cigarette is harmful or not. Most devices contain the chemical nicotine, which is highly addictive. It can be deadly for a person suffering from heart diseases. Smoking through these cigarettes is also known to block the arteries.
But this is not all that we have to be concerned about. Some companies that manufacture electronic cigarettes use the chemical formaldehyde useful as a building material. Antifreeze is also used in these devices which are scientifically proven to cause cancer.
Another harmful chemical used is Diacetyl which causes a lung disease called ‘popcorn lung’.
Vaping without Nicotine
You would think that smoking without nicotine should be harmless. To the contrary, vaping without nicotine is almost as harmful as with nicotine. A recent study states that the flavoring agent used in these machines uses chemicals that can destroy our disease-fighting cells.
How Else Can They Harm You
Electronic cigarettes can blow up
Between the year 2009 to 2016, 134 cases have been reported where the electronic cigarettes caught fire, exploded, and the battery overheated. Some of the people using these devices have serious injuries.
They can be poisonous
If you use a vaping device, keep it out of the reach of children. Vaping can be fatal for the young. The FDA is working on formulating new laws to regulate these devices including child restraint packages and nicotine warnings.
Vaping devices are thought to aid people in quitting smoking; however, there are only a few cases where someone has actually quit smoking. Instead, a large number of people use both. If you want to quit smoking with the aid of vaping devices, go ahead, but with intent.
